Master Klaus Schlegel was born in 1940 and did his apprenticeship at F & R Enders in Markneukirchen, where he worked the following years. 1963 he received his master craftsman's diploma and founded in 1971 in the Vogtand town of Erlbach his own workshop for bowed instruments.
At the international violin competition in Mittenwald in 1989 a viola from his workshop won recognition. Klaus Schlegel is a member of VDG (registered association of German Violin and Bow makers) and of the guild "Innung des Vogtländischen Musikinstrumentenhandwerks" .

Master Frank Schlegel was born in 1967. He did his apprenticeship with his father Klaus Schlegel and received in 1992 his master craftsman's diploma. He works at his father's workshop in Erlbach.

The master violin maker Klaus Schlegel is specialized in new building of fine violines, violas and cellis well as repairs and restorations. Together with his son, master violin maker Frank Schlegel, he builds the instruments according to all classical models and sizes.

Carefully chosen and well-seasoned woods guarantee a good quality of sound for ambitious musicians. Particular care is taken in professional repairs and restaurations as well. The restauration of historical instruments is a work that always demands special skills. To reproduce the historical tone of an old instrument while preserving its aesthetic integrity is a challenge which not only requires all craftsmanship, but also the ability to transplant yourself into the music of the respective epoch.
The art of building violins in the Vogtland is more than 300 years old. So in the wonderful landscape of the Schlegels' home country there has established an art of craft which still determines the life of the people in our days.

This instrument for soloists is available from stock. There is no time of waiting at SchneiderMusik that can occur with some instrument makers.
We offer the instrument that is shown and described here. Because this instrument is an handcrafted unicum, it can be delivered only once.
Further instruments by Masters Klaus & Frank Schlegel or by other Vogtland masters of violin-making are naturally available on request.
