Master Norbert Knappe was born in 1964 and did his apprenticeship with Master Lothar Sandner from 1981-1983. In the following years from 1985 - 1991 he worked in various workshops in the Vogtland and from 1991 with Master Bernd Hiller in Markneukirchen.
1992 he received his master craftsman's diploma and founded in 1993 his own workshop for bowed instruments in Markneukirchen.
The master violin maker is specialized in new building of fine violines and violas as well as repairs and restorations of all bowed instruments.
Rooted in the great tradition of violin-making in the Vogtland music region, Knappe's particular speciality is the scrupulously crafted individual production of fine master instruments. For instance his soloist violines are made of well-seasoned and carefully selected resonant wood, and are primarily characterized by their pure, balanced tone. Painstakingly hand-crafted for the highest demands in musical quality, these instruments are trimmed in ebony or Brazilian rosewood and coated in the finest varnish finishes.
This instrument for soloists is available from stock. There is no time of waiting at SchneiderMusik that can occur with some instrument makers.
We offer the instrument that is shown and described here. Because this instrument is an handcrafted unicum, it can be delivered only once.
Further instruments by Master Knappe or by other Vogtland masters of violin-making are naturally available on request.
